The Current “Bangladesh Sweden Polytechnic College” as before “Sweden
Bangladesh Institute of Technology” was recognized at Kaptai in 1963 in the
name of the “Swedish Pakistani Institute of Technology “following upon a mutual
arrangement between the Government of then Pakistan and the Royal Swedish
Government.
A Swedish manufacture company named “SENTAB” was build the whole project
on behalf of Royal Swedish Government .Two more institute of comparable type
have been honest under the same programme ; One in Landi near Karachi (In 1957)
and one in Gujrat (in 1965) of West Pakistan.
The present institute at Kaptai was the result of the program of
“Bangali” students (aprox 30 ) who were studying at Karachi Institute in 1958.
In that period it was very exclusive to go Karachi by aero-plane for education
.So they claim their petition to Mr.A.K.Khan the previous missionary of Business
of central government of Pakistan to start an Institute in East Pakistan .
After much conference the respected arranged with them and followed with the
government to establish such type of institute at Kaptai.
The objective of its formation is to train up Co-Engineers who work with skilled
engineers and scientists and in most of the cases; take up in-dependent accountabilities
in construction, connection, procedure and fortification of multifaceted equipment’s.
The Institute has fundamentally intentional its courses in the line of
Polytechnic Institutes with supplementary facilities for practical exercise of
greater greatness so that the products of this institute can come out with ability
in certain specialized industrial development along with an understanding of
the ideologies under-lying the processes.
The final aim of this institute is to fill up the gap of particular
supervisors in mass production systems and to establish new specialized manufacture
units independently if they have sufficient financial back ground.
As per condition in the consensual agreement, the Royal Swedish
Government had provided part of the development and running costs are stomached
by the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the Swedish
Technical Authorities had been reserved by 1970 when the date of bilateral contract
expired.
From the very beginning of its establishment both managerial and academic
actions of “Swedish Pakistani Institute of Technology” and then “Sweden
Bangladesh Institute of Technology” were skillful by the Industries Detachment,
Department of Industries, Labor and Community Happiness, Government of the then
Pakistan and afterward Government of Bangladesh, From 1969, this Institute has
been positioned underneath the supposed control of Bangladesh Technical
Education Board (former “East Pakistan Practical Education Board”). The Board arrangements
Examinations and bootees Diploma-in Engineering to the successful applicants
who already had their three years exercise program in this Institute.
The course and prospectus of this institute have been intended in the commencement
in such a way that four departmental batches of students may come out positive
in each year as particular in Machine shop Technology, Electrical (Installation
and Maintenance) Technology, Automobile Knowledge, and Industrial Wood
Technology individually.
Physics, Attraction, Mathematics, Business Savings, Shop Management,
Industrial Psychology, Human Relative, and Technical English are also taught
with the subjects of particular technologies.
The Institute also renders suggested services and technical knowhow to
the mounting industries and entrepreneurs by providing plans and designs and contribution
short term and evening sequences.
After became “Bangladesh Sweden Polytechnic Institute” (1979) the other outstanding
department has been extra as per following individual year:
BSPI -In 1980- Department of Civil Technology (BSPI).
BSPI -In 2001 “Department of Civil Technology (BSPI)” and “Department of
Wood
BSPI -Technology” merge together and form “Department of Civil –Wood
Technology-(BSPI)
BSPI -In 2002- Department of Computer Technology
BSPI -In 2006- Department of Construction Technology
