Welcome to Bangladesh Open University (BOU)

The need for an open university in Bangladesh was touched long ago. The history of coldness education in Bangladesh dates back to 1956, when the Education Directorate was allocated with the accountability for distribution of 200 radio headsets to educational institutions. This led to the formation of an Audio-Visual Cell, which was advanced to Audio-Visual Education Centre in 1962. No additional progress in distance education was complete till 1971.

After Independence, Bangladesh confronted the challenge of meeting the educational requirements of mass people. To meet this challenge the requirement for a new mode of education was extensively felt. As a development to that feeling, the School Dissemination Pilot Project was launched in 1978. The project was distorted into National Institute of Educational Media and Technology (NIEMT) in 1983.

NIEMT was later substituted by the Bangladesh Institute of Coldness Education (BIDE) in 1985. Apart from producing audio-visual resources, BIDE offered the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) program in distance mode. The success of BIDE fortified policymakers to take up a major plan for establishing an open university. The plan became a authenticity in October 1992 when the Bangladesh Open University Act 1992 was passed in the Legislature.

Objectives of the University from Bangladesh Open University (BOU) :

Bangladesh Open University (BOU) is the only public organization in the country that communicates education in coldness mode. In place of campus grounded teaching, this university uses technology counting electronic devices to influence people in different angles of the country. The learner in this system is not controlled by time, interplanetary or age. A learner can think and study at his individual motivation, at his own apartment and at any while whenever he/she touches free to learn.

The main impartial of the university is to increase all levels of education in different sizes in science, agriculture, people, social science etc. and all extra that derived beneath the purview of human knowledge and sympathetic by diversity of means including the use of digital technology. It intends to deliver chances of education to all classes of people and create competent and skilled manpower by civilizing the excellence of education.

As it is understandable from the purposes, BOU has unlocked a new vision for the huge mainstream of eager beginners of Bangladesh who for various reasons drop out of the conservative system of education. BOU serves additional board group who wishes to last to update their knowledge by becoming a lifelong learner. By communicating knowledge and skill to them, BOU is causative to human supply development in the country.

In the national education stadium this university therefore carries huge responsibilities and potentials. (BOU) is the individual Organization in the country which can underwrite a lot in satisfying the objective of the Government concerning eradication of illiteracy from the country.
