History of the University
Jagannath University is positioned in the southern portion of
the city of Dhaka near the Buriganga. This respected educational establishment
has a antiquity of about 150 years which started in 1858 when Dhaka Brahma
School was originated in 1858 by Dinanath Sen, Anathbandhu Mallik Prabhaticharan
Roy and Brajasundar Kaitra Bangladeshi. The name Jagannath university (JNU) was
quantified by the Zamindar of Baliadi ,Kishorilal Chowdhury, who acquired concluded
the school in 1872 and retitled it after his father's name. In 1884, it was elevated
to a second score college. Law was one of the first progressions familiarized
in the college. A common organization team administered the school and college
until 1887, when the school sector was detached to form an independent school
named Kishore Celebration School. It is now recognized as K L Jubilee School.
The administration of the college was relocated to a board of originators in
1907. In the consequent year, it befitted a first rating college.
The college happening with only 48 students and in five
years, the roll elevated to 396. Popular 1910, the zamindar , Raja Manmath Roy
Chowdhury, tangail associated the Pramath-Manmath University of Tangail with
Jagannath University (JNU).It was acknowledged as the best encouraged private
college in Dhaka as initial as 1910. With the founding of Dhaka University in
1921 the college had to stop admission in Degree progressions and was retitled
Jagannath Intermediate College. This position was changed after 28 years in
1949, when it resurrected Degree courses. The college was booked over by the
government in 1968.
Jagannath College unlocked honours and controllers misappropriated
over the college and promoted it into a graduate college. In 1982, the college
closed its programmed of intermediary level.The college familiarized evening
shifts in 1992.The college was distorted into the Jagannath University in 2005.
At contemporary the University has 22 sections under 4 faculties. The abilities
are Science, Arts, Commercial Studies and Social Science. Now 271 teachers are affianced
in providing excellence education of around 27000 students. On assorted areas.
The teachers and students of the college appropriated dynamic
part in the Language Movement of the premature 1950s, the numeral activities of
the 1960s and War of Liberation of the country in 1971. The college fashioned
tens of thousands graduates. Many of them have become well-known at home and overseas.
Noted among the alumni of the college are sufi motahar hosen (poet), Abdul
Hamid (sports organizer and sporting journalist), Bhabatosh Dutta (economist),
Premendra Mitra (writer and poet), AR Yusuf (Tavern-at-Law, Government Minister
of Bangladesh in early 1980s), A KMA Rouf (illustrator), Anisuzzaman
(educationist, researcher), and Brozen Das (snorkeler, the first Indian to swim
crossways English Network).
The Management of University is motivated to make this formation
as a center of brilliance for creating popular and industrious citizens of
Bangladesh.
