Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College & Hospital is a state subsidized Medical College in Bangladesh. It is situated in the northeastern city of Sylhet in Sylhet Area. In 1936 establishment of a Recognized Hospital in the sentiment of the city which was later promoted to cater for the British and associated troops of Burma obverse in World War II. In 1948 the hospital was further advanced and extended to convert it into a Medical School with fitting teaching staff and residential lodgings in order to produce Licentiate of Medical Ability (LMF) doctors. The College delivers 5 years MBBS gradation from 1962 and 4 years BDS mark from 2011, now admits roughly 210 students each year. It was renamed in 1986 from the innovative “Sylhet Medical College” to the present one after General Muhammad Ataul Gani Osmania, a innate of Sylhet and the Commander-in-Chief of Bangladesh Military during Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. From 1999 postgraduate progressions of various punishments have been started in this College. The College is united to Shahjalal University of Science and Technology underneath the School of Medical Sciences.

School of Medical Science-SOMCH:
The School of Medical Science of Shah Jalal University of Scholarship and Technology, Sylhet demeanors the apprentice medical course in accordance with the prospectus laid down by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Convention. On successful achievement of five years academic study, the university honors the: M. B. B. S. gradation. The same university also prizes the Post-Graduation Degree like MD, MS, M.Phil and Diplomas in dissimilar specialties and sub-specialisms. The School of Medical science functions through the commission of courses and studies & examination team. The Dean of the school of medical sciences, selected by the Vice Chancellor of Shah Jalal University of Scholarship & Technology chairs the Executive Team of the School of Medical Sciences.

Hospital Brief History- SOMCH:
The Sylhet M.A.G Osmani Medical College Hospital is positioned in the north-west side of Sylhet City This Hospital is progressed as Institute Hospital in the year 1936 and renowned as Medical School in 1948. After that it was transformed as Sylhet Medical college Hospital in the year 1962 in the preceding site. It was shifted to its contemporary location in the year 1978. In 1986 this hospital was retitled as Sylhet M A.G Osmani Medical College Hospital in the name of famous freedom fighter Bangobir and chief of Armed Militaries during liberation war General (Rtd ) MAG. Osmani, who was instinctive in this holy place.


History- SOMCH:
Sylhet, famous for the shrine of the renowned saint Hazrat Shahjalal (R.). Modern medicine was presented to the community by the establishment of an official hospital in the heart of the city in 1936 which was later promoted to cater for the British and allied crowds of Burma front in World War II. In the year 1948, the hospital was more upgraded and extended to translate it into a medical school with appropriate teaching staff and inhabited accommodations in order to crop Licentiate of Medical Faculty (LMF) doctors.
Later on the Govt. definite to start a five years course hire to MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery) gradation and as such in 1962, the Sylhet Medical College originated into being. The bed forte was augmented to 300, The College was originally start with 27 students and was joined to the faculty of Medicine of Dhaka University, with the promotion of the medical school into a medical college, and the indispensable for a larger space for housing the several subdivisions as well as a quieter and congenial neighboring became obvious. As a result of which the present place in the western sector of the town was nominated for the steadfastness, where the collage was finally contented in 1969 and the bad forte was increased to 500. Since then the college has been enduring its steady progress. The number of acknowledged students is now 150 per year, which is the same in all the medical college in Bangladesh. Hospital for tuberculosis and chest sicknesses founded in 1953, Leprosy hospital in 1962, Communicable diseases hospital in1982, are all associated to the college. A Nuclear Medical Center was also recognized within the campus in 1981. Since the deliverance in 1971 there has been steady progress in many sectors like housing of feminine students, formation of coronary care unit, endoscopy unit, diarrheal complaint cell, establishment of department of microbiology, subdivision of biochemistry and the department of radiotherapy. Recently department of pediatric operation, neuron operation and neuron medicine have also been happening in the collage. Post graduate classifications of various punishments have been ongoing in this college since 1999.

In the year 1986, the college was rechristened Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College after late General Osmani, the deliverance war hero. Since then the college has complete steady forward and in time it was understood that the college was ready for greater respects for what it and already achieved during the years since its commencement and particularly in view of the fact that the college used to be familiar by the GMC till its deracination in 1972 composed with supplementary medical college in the sub-landform. In January 1993 the collage was average by the Overall Medical council of U.K. for infinite period. We believe our students will remain to work as hard as ever to uphold this exclusive honor bestowed on us to enhance the standing of this institution even further.
